“From Inspiration to Publication”
Each of my books began as a “divine inspiration”— an idea, a dream, a vision. If you are reading here, I suspect you have a compelling idea or work in progress. My first bit of advice is, believe in it! My journey to publication with Moon Mother, Moon Daughter was filled with life lessons, most essentially, trust, patience and perseverance.
From the moment of Moon Mother, Moon Daughter’s divine conception, when the idea was sparked between my co-author, Terri Allison and I, to the ultimate “birth” and publication, we embarked on a journey and labor of love that spanned five years. When we received our contract with Fair Winds Press, the divine right timing was clear. All four of our daughters were coming of age, and we were able to write from beyond our ideas and share our authentic experiences.
This divine choreography occurs with all of my books. Serendipity and synchronicity guide the process. Every book has a life of its own. Guidance, continuous support, and ongoing inspiration are essential to the process. I won’t deny that writing a book can be an arduous journey!
I learned a lot about the traditional publishing process, how to write a query letter and book proposal, submit the proposal to publishing companies, and the value of an agent. My subsequent children’s books were published differently, a collaboration between myself, the illustrators, translators, and a local non-profit publishing company, Seven Seas Press.
